Specifically, we explain what the customer is paying for and break down costs by item or per unit (e.g. per foot for carpentry). We’ll also create a group chat with both the husband and wife, for mutual verification and 24/7 updates.

As a premium partner, we can lock down the price of say marble tiles in a separate contract between Laurus Design and the raw material suppliers, so your wallet doesn’t further suffer from the cost of inflation.

Custom renovation projects can take longer than expected, especially if there are changes or additions to the original plan. Delays can also occur due to miscommunication.

Not at Laurus Design.

Since our designer, in-house carpenter, LEW electrician, tiler, plumber, painter and raw material suppliers are in-house, we have the flexibility, coordination, speed and standardisation to execute in tandem. This is in stark contrast to private contractors and common IDs, who may struggle to liaise with multiple unknown contractors with differing interest. For instance, an argument may happen between the electrician who needs space to install the wiring, and the carpenter who already installed the cupboard.

Furthermore, Laurus Design cultivates long-term relationships (over 10 years) with other Malaysian Chinese sub-contractors who are not only hand-picked for quality work but are culturally and language aligned too.

In fact, we are so confident about our timeline that we have a standard penalty of 1% of the total contract value per week for failing to deliver on time. For example, if your contract value is $50,000 and the project was delayed for 3 weeks, Laurus Design would have to compensate $1500.

Lastly, just in case you’re wondering, for normal renovations, we aim for 4 to 8 weeks completion, while resale projects are typically 8 to 12 weeks.

Some contractors might take upfront payments and then fail to complete the work or disappear altogether. Hence, homeowners who go for the lowest price without proper research or understanding of actual cost may be vulnerable to such scams.

Some renovation work may also be non-compliant with Housing and Development Board (HDB) regulations.

Our clients don’t suffer from such issues.

Laurus Design is an HDB registered contractor since 2015. This is significant as only ID firms that have operated more than 3 years (legitimately) can be approved. Proper documentation must be submitted too.

And it’s not just the company that is licensed. All in-house staffs have taken and passed a Building and Construction Authority (BCA) course, including a public housing course before they’re allowed to work with any client.

For price, we are fully transparent and realistic about costs, providing itemised lists for electrical and all forms of works. This means we specify everything in the contract, including materials, measurements, and what the homeowner will receive.
